Born Derek Francis Johnson, Acorah discovered he had psychic abilities when he met the spirit of his dead grandfather as a youngster. He is most widely known for his regular appearances on the hit TV show Most Haunted.

His grandmother was also a medium and told Derek he was the first male in their family to have ‘the gift’.

A devout spiritualist, Acorah uses a spirit guide called Sam to communicate with the other side. He explains: “Sam is an Ethiopian from a previous lifetime that I knew.
